It is awfully apparent from this blog's weekly Party and Bullsh*t posts that there isn't too much to love about the clubbing scene. I, myself, was never too into it, but to each it's own.
For the grown and playful, an alternative to the stunting atmosphere of the nightclub exists.
The venues are comfortable and provide a warm and friendly atmosphere. We feature a variety of music accented by delicious food and cocktails. The rooms are filled with laughter, competition, and camaraderie.
The tables (or stations) are spread throughout the venue with a variety of games to suit any interest. The games of choice come from a wide range of classics like:
Dominoes, card games (Spades, Bid Whist, Poker), Scrabble, UNO, Chess, Checkers, Perfection, Trouble, Pictionary, Yahtzee, Backgammon, Taboo, Operation, Chutes and Ladders, Scattergories, Simon, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Battleship, Connect Four, Twister, Rock'em Sock'em Robots, Jenga, Monopoly, Sorry, and more. We even feature games like Jacks, Pac-Man, and Musical Chairs for true nostalgia.
Play Date™ is held in various cities across the country. Check them out here:
Play Date US
I love this idea and I'm gonna definitely check this out, but just like in the club, there can be room for conflict in this setting. I have personally witnessed the breakup of families over a games of UNO. My sister and I didn't speak to each other for a month after a rent dispute over a game of Monopoly.
I hope Play Date™ remains a fun and safe event. I'd truly hate to hear that someone got popped in the ass for not saying, "Sorry" while playing Sorry.
Here's a video of the event held last week in Atlanta when the lights went out. I could've been here playing Jenga by candelight instead of sitting in the damn dark at home:
I'm thinking meet-n-greet again... What do ya say?
