A few months ago when singer Joe revealed that R. Kelly was actively stunting his musical efforts by threatening others in the industry, I felt bad for him. I was never really a big Joe fan and his talents are average at best, but what little respect I had for him is now out the window (and also Tyler Perry for that matter).
Joe's Ass Can't Be Bothered To Vote **recounted entirely from a poster at Lipstick Alley**
Joe was on "The Tom Joyner Morning Show" this morning promoting his new album. Tom played little clips and was really getting into the music. Now, to give a bit of background, after Tyler Perry was on the show promoting his new movie and mentioned that he was not registered to vote (or took his time to register, or didn't register until VERY recently), Tom and the morning show team have asked if every person who is on the show promoting their stuff was registered to vote. Joe said that he wasn't registered to vote. Tom asked him why? He said "my man already has a really big lead and is going to win with or without my vote so it doesn't matter whether I register and vote." Tom said "that's not true." Sybil and Jay gave their input as to why every vote counts and how he should register immediately. Joe said "I mean, I understand what you're saying and I'm excited. I think I may register to vote if you put enough pressure on me." Jay said "This is the pressure. Come on man. You have to register." After going back and forth a bit, Joe said "OK, I'll do it." They gave him the 1-866-MY-VOTE-1 telephone number. He said "so after I register, I can vote online?" Tom patiently said "no, you cannot vote online, but you can register today and can vote on election day." Joe said "when is that?" Sybil said "election day is November 4th." He said "OK, cool, because I am going to be in Japan until November 2nd." Tom said "well, if you call the number that I gave you, you can get information about voting absentee or voting early since you may or may not be in town. Where do you live?" Joe said "I'll be in Japan." Tom said "no, where do you live when you are not on tour?" Joe said "oh, I live in New Jersey." Tom said "well, you give them all the information they ask for at the number I gave you, and they will be able to give you all of your options."
They said some more things back and forth because Tom, Sybil and Jay were trying to make this as easy as possible for Joe, but he seemed to really not understand (my eyes also started to glaze over and I couldn't attentively listen to them talk to him anymore). For the rest of the show, Tom asked folks to call in on his texting line (OH-OH-OH or 646464) and put folks on blast who aren't register to vote who the caller thinks "just need a little push and they could possibly be convinced to register and vote . . . like Joe." They even said something like "don't be like Joe and not register because you think your boy is gonna win. It doesn't work that way."
Seeing how ignant Joe is, I see why R. Kelly felt so threatened of him in the first place.
