Murphy, Edmonds 'friends,' not spouses
The wedding ceremony between Eddie Murphy and film producer Tracey
Edmonds two weeks ago was only symbolic -- and that's as far as they
plan to go, they announced Wednesday.
Murphy, 46, and Edmonds, 40, traded vows on New Year's Day on a
private island off Bora Bora in French Polynesia in a ceremony that
was not legally binding.
"After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that
we will forgo having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define
our relationship further," said a statement on behalf of both Murphy
and Edmonds issued by publicist Arnold Robinson.
"While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of
our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on
a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends," the statement
said.
The statement did not clarify whether the two remained a couple. In an
e-mail exchange, Robinson said he could not comment beyond the
statement.
Murphy has six children from previous relationships. He and Edmonds,
whose credits include "Dreamgirls" and "Beverly Hills Cop," began
dating last year. They became engaged in July.
What was the point of this "symbolic" crap in the first place? Look at that kiss. He was concentrating hard to get through that.

By several accounts, Eddie Murphy and his "wife" of two weeks, Tracey Edmonds, had a very volatile relationship, which makes the official statement announcing their breakup seem laughable.
The pair wed in a symbolic ceremony New Year's Day in an island near Bora Bora, but the wedding was not legally binding.
Things for the newlyweds got off to a very rocky start.
"Eddie started yelling at Tracey in front of people," one of Edmonds's wedding guests tells People magazine. "He did it on a few occasions and it was very embarrassing."
The pair reportedly got into a HUGE fight just two days ago.
"It was ugly," a fiend tells Life & Style. "They never officially moved in together and apparently never had a civil ceremony."
The insider adds that Eddie seemed "very controlling."
Duh!
The "friend" says Eddie insisted Tracey take his name, but she refused. She wanted to keep the name Edmonds because her sons have that surname.
The insider adds that Eddie personally paid for everyone to be flown to Tahiti for their special day.

What's going on with Gabrielle Union these days? She's pissed about all things black: bloggers, movie descriptions and slave roles. Chick is on a rampage and she's mad as hell and is not gonna take it anymore. That doesn't slow her down from hoeing, though.
Regarding the fact that her latest movie, The Perfect Holiday was being marketed as an urban black Christmas movie:
“No one calls Fred Claus the white Christmas movie. The Perfect Holiday is a movie about the holidays. It’s not race-specific. If there’s more than one black person in the movie, it’s an urban romantic comedy, an urban thriller - it’s just a flipping movie. The way kids think, the demographic they pander and chase - they don’t care. The same way guys are like, ‘Halle Berry’s hot, Jessica Alba’s hot’ - they don’t say, ‘She’s a hot black girl’ or ‘a hot Latina’. They notice trends, they buy movies they like, they Google people they like. It’s not race-specific… Give me a break. It’s an old-fashioned notion of marketing, and how they like to label things.”
That's sad. That movie only make $58.60 at the box office this weekend.
This, coming from a woman who ALWAYS plays the "decent" black woman with attitude who can never find herself a halfway decent black man in every. damn. movie. :
Actress Gabrielle has started producing her own films because she's sick of all the offers she gets to play black slaves. The Bad Boys II star is convinced young moviegoers aren't interested in another big screen lesson about the ills of slavery, and so she's turning heads as a Hollywood go-getter. She explains, "There was this script that came and it was yet another slavery story told from the perspective of the disgruntled Southerner, and I'm reading this script and thinking, 'At what point did somebody think I would want to comb the Missus' hair.' "I don't want to do this. It's about being pro-active. The 18 to 34-year-olds don't care about race." [Sure.] (Link)
Regarding black GOSSIP bloggers:
"It's like if you wrote for a major newspaper or a major magazine. If you can't substantiate your claims, you don't write them. We don't have enough black voices, [and] we certainly don't have enough people in entertainment who are trying to do good things for our community, so anytime you try to attack someone's character, you negate their voice for all the things that they're trying to do. I come out and speak about African American sexual assault survivors and what we can do to provide support and help to those survivors. I talk about African Americans and breast cancer. But people aren't going to listen to those things if you are spreading lies and rumors, you know what I mean? It kinda negates all the good things that you do. [Not really if it's a damn lie.] It makes me want to just work harder and do more good, but it's frustrating and it makes a lot of people in my industry say, "Screw it! If I can't even get my own people to listen and not talk ill of me, what hope do I have for mainstream media?"
