Being from New Orleans, where getting your first gold tooth (teeth) is a rite of passage in your teens, I'll have to go with the latter.
When you've seen people in positions such as a high school principal and a gynecologist with gold permanents, but never rocking a TCB, it becomes really apparent what is more acceptable by the public.
